Phytoplankton Starter Culture

Now that we have established what equipment is needed and how to set it up, the next step is to purchase your starter culture of phytoplankton.  If you’re successful, this could be the only culture you’ll ever need to purchase.  The reason for this is that the great part about a thriving phytoplankton culture is that it just keeps making more.  So where can you go to get a starter culture? Well, for one thing, you can start by talking with someone, like me,  who already has a thriving culture.  Sometimes your local fish store may carry a branded phytoplankton culture, or you could join an online community/forum and check with local members.  The key to a good culture is freshness and temperature.  The cultures will not tolerate freezing, but they should be able to tolerate cold temperatures.
