Saltwater Aquarium Blog turns three years old today. I started the blog, in November 2009, as a bit of an experiment. I started it to test two questions: 1) would anybody read it, and 2) could I keep up with it. I had already written a few short articles for the magazine Aquarium Fish International, but had never committed to writing about the aquarium hobby on a regular basis.
A lot of things have changed over the last three years. In November, 2009, I had a 3.5 year old daughter and a 6 month old daughter. Now, my girls are 6.5, 3.5 and 8 months old. It’s amazing how fast they grow up. Aquarium Fish International, the magazine that really got me started writing about the saltwater aquarium hobby went out of business. I upgraded my 75-gallon tank with a 92-gallon corner tank and put a rack of aquariums in my basement, to try my hand at breeding a few species of fish, with mixed results.
If you haven’t been here in a while you may have noticed a few things have changed. At the end of March, 2012, I added a newsletter. At first, I was concerned about the extra work it was going to take to pull together the newsletter every week, but I couldn’t be happier with the results. Through the newsletter, I have had the opportunity to write about new topics, share useful information, and most importantly, it has made it even easier to have personal email exchanges with a few subscribers.
You may have also noticed that I changed the look and feel of the website.
After staring at the same template for 3 years, I decided it was time for a change. I find this new layout to be a little softer on the eyes. A picture is worth a thousand words, and I think the new layout showcases pictures better. Do you like it?
While I’m excited that the site has been up for three years–it’s really not a celebration about the site–as it is a testament to you, as a reader. Thank you for stopping by. Thank you for visiting my sponsors. Thank you for signing up for the RSS feed, friending me on Facebook, following on Twitter, subscribing to the newsletter, or otherwise consuming the information in whatever way you prefer.
If you have comments, feedback or advice–please let me know what you think. I strive to provide better content–and can use any advice you have. If you like what you have read here–or have found something helpful, the single most important thing you can do is share that information–let someone else know or help someone else out. Thanks again for reading.
